A Family of Churches

Notes From the DOM Desk

We had a very good and productive 128th meeting of the Weakley Baptist Association, now called Fall Conference 2014. A special thanks to Brother Jerry Summers and First Baptist Church in Sharon for hosting our Sunday evening session. Also, we appreciate Brother Rick Walker and the Oak Grove Baptist Church for hosting our Monday night session. Sunday night’s meeting drew a total of 188 in attendance. Monday night’s attendance was 131. Overall, we had 101 messengers with 32 churches represented.

Several things impressed me about our annual conference. As already noted, the host churches were very gracious. The singing was very inspiring and the preaching by pastors David Gallimore and Dennis Scott was right on target. I appreciate the enthusiasm in which the reports were given. Also, Tommy Moore and the Association Leadership Team are to be thanked for the work they do for our association throughout the year. Brother Kerry Shopher ended a three year commitment to be our moderator. Brother Kerry has been very capable at this position. Since our theme was “Greater Works” based on John 14:12-14, may we continue to strive to do greater works than Jesus did throughout our new associational year.
Our Senior Adult Luncheon held at the Victory Baptist Church on October 7 was well attended with 88 people present. We had singing and a great meal provided by Victory. We hope to schedule more of these events for 2015.
This years’ Tennessee Baptist Convention (The Summit) will be held on November 11-12 at the Brentwood Baptist Church. This is always a good time to gather with fellow Tennessee Baptists from across our state as we worship, hear reports from our institutions, and discuss important issues faced by our state convention.
I know early voting has begun and many of you may have already voted. I hope you voted “yes” on Amendment 1, and if you haven’t voted, you will vote “yes” on Amendment 1. It is unbelievable that our wonderful state allows abortion but that we also allow them with so few restrictions. Abortion is the killing
of the most innocent among us, our children. Please stand for life.
This month’s resource is a website you may be interested in called, TrueLife.org. This site offers reliable answers from a biblical worldview via the web. TrueLife.org provides brief videos on subjects such as Mormonism, marriage, suffering, etc… I think you will find this resource very helpful to you as an individual and also to your church.

Laborers Together,

Brother Phil
